Project Description
Cycling from London to Budapest
Everything started when I moved to London in 2016, if you want to catch up on that event, you can do it here. I had this idea of cycling home before as well, when I lived on Crete (2013), however I didn’t have the time to realise it, neither the willingness. Four years later, it is still on my to-do list, or hopefully when you read this I can just write it was on my list. Because I finally decided just 2 weeks before, that I’ll cycle home from London this time. Yes-yes it is not close, not at all. I have the following plan for the route:
The planned route of the trip
As you can see I’ll visit quite a few countries during this roughly 1910 km journey. Fortunately enough, the terrain is rather flat, so I’ll climb only 12,000 meters during the entire ride, which is pretty good if we divide it with the length. It is important to see that this route is my preconception for the journey, but I don’t want to be tied to it, so I didn’t organise any accommodation after the first day. Oh yes, I’ll visit Bruges, which can be considered as my favourite place on this planet. My finish line is at Heroes square in Budapest, with an estimated arrival somewhere during the first week of October. After showing you my plans, it is fair to show the list of my gear as well, you can see it here:
My shopping list for the equipment
I tried to buy just the necessary stuff and this list is of course not entirely complete, as I’m bringing bits and bolts, but this rather covers the bigger things what I needed to order up front. Most of the stuff arrived from Amazon and Decathlon, some from Ebay. I’ll share my current location and progress with you in the form of the following Endomondo workout, it should update automatically as I progress closer and closer to the finish line.
My progress so far and current location
And this is the most interesting bit I think. I’m about to create and upload a video during the trip, every single day. Yes, yes I know that the day has 24 hours, but let’s see if I can follow it through, I have high hopes for it. I’ll definitely need the support of everyone in viewing, sharing, liking the content, which will build up the creative pressure, not to leave abandon the video part of the trip. So here are the videos which I’ve created so far:
My (hopefully) daily videos about the cycling
